Who can replace Avesh Khan in the Asia Cup UAE? That’s the question in every cricket fraternity’s mind. The 15th annual Asia Cup, which determines the Asian continent’s champion, is currently taking place in the United Arab Emirates. India, the current champion, qualified for the Super 4 round by defeating Pakistan and Hong Kong in their league round, in which six teams will compete. India is expected to win the trophy this time because it is stronger than the other teams.

However, Avesh Khan, the bowling department’s third fast bowler, can be said to melt tamarind in the stomachs of team management and fans by giving runs. After making his debut in the IPL 2022 series last February, he was given an opportunity in South Africa and West Indies series that followed.

In those two series, he played well in two matches but bowled poorly in the other 4-5 and conceded runs. So he got a lucky chance to play in this Asia Cup after Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel pulled out at the last minute due to injury, and he was the target of taunts from the fans.

However, he had to turn that opportunity into gold without making any progress and in two matches, 9 and 13, as Ashok Dinda’s successor gave runs in a poor economy. However, his selection proved to be a mistake, despite the fact that India survived due to the skill of other players. So let’s take a look at the three bowlers who should have been chosen instead. Here is the list of players who can replace Avesh Khan.

Shardul Thakur

Fans revere him as Lord Thakur, but he is not a bowler who scores runs in every match, as Avesh Khan does. Furthermore, he has already broken it several times when the opposition formed a strong alliance and contributed to India’s victories.

He can also take multiple wickets in a single over. He also has the ability to accumulate runs while batting. In the last five T20 innings, he has scored crucial runs for victory (22, 20, 17, 10, 0). Although he is not a complete bowler, he is undeniably a better bowler than Avesh Khan for sure.

Muhammad Shami

Shami is definitely our T20 World Cup bowler. right? The choice of Avesh Khan to replace him in this Asia Cup has caught the attention of many cricket fraternity. Having last played fully in the last T20 World Cup, he has the talent, quality and experience to have never played a single match.

And because he has reached the age of 30, the selection committee has removed him, openly stating that you do not have a chance to give the next generation of players a chance. However, there is no doubt that he is a far superior bowler to Avesh Khan, who excelled in the recent IPL series, taking 20 wickets to help Gujarat win the title. Due to his modest performance, Avesh Khan may be unexpectedly selected for the T20 World Cup at the last minute.

Deepak Chahar

It is unfortunate that he has been placed on the reserve list rather than being named to the live squad for this Asia Cup. Because he was the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in international T20 cricket in 2019, the first Indian bowler to record the best bowling performance, and he was a World Cup bowler.

But, as fate would have it, he was injured ahead of the 2022 IPL series in the recent Zimbabwe series, where he bowled brilliantly in his comeback match to win the man of the match award.

In the meantime, players like Avesh Khan, who have performed slightly better, have taken his place. So, rather than repeating the Asia Cup mistake, it would be better to include him in the World Cup squad. Because, let us not forget, he has the ability to add significant runs at the end of the batting order.
