Virat Kohli Future: All eyes are on Virat Kohli. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been a victim of his own greatness. The cricket fraternity is so much used to of seeing Kohli hit hundreds for fun that they are not able to digest the century drought of the batting maestro. There is a heated debate going in the cricket fraternity regarding the poor form of the Indian superstar for the past two years.

A lot of senior players and cricket pundits have also called out the long rope being given to the Indian skipper. However, if we look at the stats for the past two years, the batter has done decently and is at par with a lot of good batters in the international stage.

However, what makes his case worse is that the people can’t see the great Virat Kohli play like an ordinary batter. In this article, we have touched upon the past, present, and future of the former Indian skipper in depth.

No one in the cricket fraternity is unaware of Virat Kohli’s illustrious international career. He is a class apart player and will always be regarded as one of the best batters to have ever played the gentlemen’s game. The Delhi-born started his career as a chubby teenager who shot to fame by making India win the under-19 World Cup 2008 in his leadership.

Making his debut in August 2008, Kohli left no stone unturned to make his presence felt. He smashed knock after knock in the cricket fraternity to establish himself as a permanent in the Indian team. The prodigy player took giant strides to break records and fill the shoes of Sachin Tendulkar.

In his international career of over 14 years, the 33-year-old has represented India in 102 Test matches smacking 8074 runs, including 28 fifties and 27 hundred at an average of 49.53. Speaking of his limited-overs exploits, Kohli has 12,344 and 3308 runs in 262 One Day Internationals and 99 T20 Internationals.

A look at the Present

The past three years have been extremely difficult for Virat Kohli. The right-hander lost the 2019 World Cup and followed it up with defeats in the 2021 Test Championship and 2021 T20 World Cup. As a result, we had to give up his captaincy in all three formats.

Meanwhile, things have not been good for Kohli with the bat as well. The batter who smacked 70 international hundreds in the first 11 years, is now struggling for a single century for almost three years. His last three-digit score came in November 2019 against Bangladesh.

Though Kohli has hammered a handful of fifties, nothing can make up for a century. Also, 2022 hasn’t been good for the batter so far. After a horrible performance in IPL 2022, Virat continued his torrid run for India as well.

Playing in the one-off Test against England last month, the 33-year-old registered scores of one and 11. He failed to deliver any noteworthy performance in white-ball cricket as well. A series of poor performances resulted in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) giving a much-needed break to the batter from the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour.

All eyes are on Virat Kohli ‘s future: Though Virat has made it into India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2022, his form is still questionable. It won’t be wrong to say that his future in the blue jersey depends on the coming T20 tournament. It will be difficult for the management to take the plunge, but there are chances of Virat Kohli missing the T20 World Cup if his lean patch persists.

Aakash Chopra – Asia Cup is Crucial for Kohli

Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra echo the same sentiments. The veteran reckoned, “Virat is a phenomenal player, perhaps one of the best the world has ever seen, but there comes a point where runs, contributions, and role play come into the picture.

“If you’re batting at no. 3 for India, it doesn’t matter who it is, you have to score runs. If you’re talking about team philosophy, with that perspective and keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind, this Asia Cup after a long break will be crucial for Virat Kohli.”

Ravi Shastri Back Virat Kohli

“Big players wake up in due course. They need a break; mental fatigue can creep in to the best in the world. There is a not a single player in world cricket who has not gone through a bad patch and I am sure this downtime is not just for the body, it’s time to reflect” – Ravi Shastri.

“He will come back with a calmer mind, because the heat is off. You have been away. Now, what you do will get the tone. He gets a fifty in the very first game, mouths will be shut for the rest of the tournament. What’s happened in the past is history. Remember, public memory is very short,” Shastri said in a virtual press conference hosted by Mayanti Langer Binny also featuring Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram.
