Asia Cup 2022: BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup T20 on Monday. While the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul returned, there were couple of surprises with Deepak Hooda getting the nod ahead of Sanju Samon/Ishan Kishan and a few major absentees as well. Shreyas Iyer is part of the back up in the squad announced by BCCI is even a surprise for Indian fans ahead of Sanju and Ishan.
With neither Sanju nor Ishan getting the nod for the Asia Cup, some fans have raised questions on the selection committee’s decisions through social media.
The most outstanding avoidance from the Asia Cup 2022 crew was the attendant hitter Sanju Samson. He procured a determination in the Ireland series on the rear of fabulous exhibitions in IPL 2022, wherein he pummeled 458 runs in 17 innings.

Samson scored a stupendous 77 off 42 balls on his re-visitation of worldwide cricket against Ireland. Subsequently, Samson scored 72 runs in three innings of the ODI series against West Indies, while staying unbeaten in one of them. In the T20I series, the 28-year-old gathered 45 runs at a normal of 45 in the T20I leg of the Caribbean Tour.

He has featured in only four ODIs and 16 T20Is since his debut in 2015, despite his impressive performances in the IPL 2022. Furthermore, his strong wicket-keeping skills were on the show in his recent appearances as well. The non-selection into the Asia Cup squad certainly is a shocking one for the cricket fraternity.
Another notable exclusion from the squad has been Ishan Kishan who was India’s opener in the T20 World Cup 2021. He was given a long rope at the top of the order until the away series against Ireland in June. However, since then he has been barely in the playing XI.
The left-hander, however, has been quite consistent, with 543 runs in 19 T20Is at an average of 30.16 and a strike rate of 131.15.
What about poor Ishan Kishan?”Aakash Chopra on the youngster not being picked in the reserves as well.
Aakash Chopra has expressed slight surprise at Ishan Kishan’s non-selection even in the Indian squad reserves for the Asia Cup 2022.
Statistics suggests that dropping Sanju Samon and Ishan Kishan from T20 squad could be a mistake.
