Asia Cup 2022: Unstoppable Sri Lanka finish the super four stage with a win

PAK vs SL Asia Cup Final Preview

Unstoppable Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in the last game of the super four stage of the Asia Cup 2022. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai hosted this contest. Both sides will again meet on Sunday for the big final at the same venue.

Unstoppable Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and put Pakistan in to bat. Pakistan got off to a very good start, scoring 49 at the end of the powerplay but lost the wicket of in-form Mohammad Rizwan on 14. Babar Azam looked good for his 30 but his departure led to a mini-collapse.

Mohammad Nawaz tried to fight back but lacked support from the other end as the Lankan side kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Pakistan were bundled out on 121 as they failed to play their full quota of 20 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga picked up three wickets for Sri Lanka. Maheesh Theekshana and Pramod Madushan also chipped in with a couple of scalps each.

Chasing 122, the Unstoppable Sri Lanka side got off to a shaky start, losing three wickets inside the powerplay. They scored 37 at the end of the first six overs as Pakistan bowlers bowled well upfront. Pathum Nissanka along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa steadied the ship for the Lankan side.

Both Nissanka and Rajapaksa started building the partnership before the southpaw departed on 24. Skipper Shanaka joined Nissanka as they got closer to the target. Nissanka brought up his fifty and took his side across the line with three overs to spare. Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets each but the total wasn’t enough for them to defend.

Sri Lanka remain unbeaten in the super fours of the Asia Cup 2022

Sri Lanka suffered a heavy loss against Afghanistan in the opening game of the Asia Cup 2022. They beat Bangladesh to seal a berth in the super four stage of the competition. There was no looking back for them as they won their all three games of the super four stage and have looked flawless in the competition so far. They will be riding with confidence heading into the final on Sunday.

Pakistan, meanwhile, sealed a berth in the final after winning a thrilling game against Afghanistan. They have suffered a loss against Sri Lanka before the final and will be eager to turn the tables around while facing the same opposition on Sunday. Their batters will have to step up in the big clash to stand any chance of lifting the Asia Cup 2022.

Player of the Match

Wanindu Hasaranga was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling figures of 3/21.

I’m really happy because last few games I’ve given up some runs, but today I’ve made a comeback strongly with wickets. First two overs, I just tried to bowl dot balls and build the pressure. I always look to come on to the pitch positively and give my best.

– Wanindu Hasaranga

Always acceptable these kind of results. The combination we have with the left-arm fast bowlers, the leg spinners – the variation we have is amazing. I think the extras were a concern in this game, and the lines the fast bowlers bowled.

– Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka Skipper
