Match 24 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 saw Barbados Royals beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots convincingly to strengthen their position at the top of the table with the help of Azam Khan and bowlers. The Providence Stadium in Guyana hosted this exciting contest.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots skipper Dwayne Bravo won the toss and opted to bowl first. They had a very good start as they picked up early wickets and reduced the Royals to 43/2 at the end of the powerplay. Harry Tector along with Azam Khan started to rebuild the innings. Both took time to settle in as the Patriots’ bowlers were bowling beautifully.

Once set, Azam Khan teed off and brought up his half-century. Tector played the role of a second fiddle to perfection. Khan’s knock of 64 off 42 balls came to an end in the last over. He smashed 5 fours and as many sixes. Tector remained unbeaten on 47 to take his side past the 150-run mark. The Patriots picked up three wickets in the process.

Chasing 157, the Patriots got off to a watchful start. Openers in Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis put 43 between them at the end of the powerplay. Fletcher’s scratchy innings of 20 came to an end in the seventh over. It created an opening for the Royals as they ran through the Patriots’ batting lineup. Lewis looked good for his 41 before being cleaned up by Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Apart from the openers, only Dewald Brevis managed to get to double digits as none of the batters got going and they were eventually knocked over on 120 in 19.3 overs. Mujeeb and Nyeem Young picked up three wickets each for the Royals. Jason Holder also chipped in with a couple of scalps as it helped them complete a comprehensive win to stay at the top of the table.

Player of the Match

Azam Khan was named the Player of the Match for his knock of 64.

The credit goes to Trevor (the coach). It was a bit on the slower side and I was reminding myself to stay there. Harry Tector was amazing. We are really happy that we are scoring runs for the team.

– Azam Khan

It is a good win. Good to see that Harry did well when given the opportunity. Mujeeb did his thing. Things are just falling into place. Everyone is fitting perfectly. We dedicate this game to Barbados.
