Barbados Royals beat Jamaica Tallawahs: Jamaica Tallawahs faced Barbados Royals in the 14th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet in St Lucia. The Royals continued their dream run in the competition as they registered their fifth straight win in this year’s competition.
Barbados Royals Skipper David Miller won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision paid off as they got off to a brilliant start, dismissing both the Tallawahs’ openers early in the innings. The Tallawahs were reeling at 26/2 at the end of the powerplay. Amir Jangoo along with Rovman Powell led the fightback. The 57-run stand was broken in the 11th over when Jangoo was dismissed on 30.
Skipper Powell looked good and brought up his fifty. He fell soon but Raymon Reifer at the other end played a good cameo. He scored 41 off 26 balls to help his side finish their innings on 156/8. Obed McCoy bowled brilliantly and finished with figures of 3/24. Jason Holder also chipped in with a couple of scalps.
Chasing 157, in-form Kyle Mayers was cleaned up Chris Green on 12 in the second over. The duo of Quinton de Kock and Corbin Bosch steadied the ship for the Royals. Both took some time to settle in but once they got their eye in, there was no stopping them.
de Kock and Bosch played some beautiful strokes and kept the Tallawahs at bay. Both brought up their respective fifties and kept the required run rate under control. Bosch departed on 56 but not before taking his side closer to the target. de Kock and Miller remained unbeaten on 64 and 17 respectively to take their side across the line with a ball to spare.
Barbados Royals grab their fifth straight win of the CPL 2022
Barbados Royals are looking unstoppable in the CPL 2022. They have played five games so far and are yet to lose a single game. They have 10 points to their name and are sitting comfortably at the top of the points table. The Royals will be riding with confidence and will look to keep performing in a similar fashion going ahead in the competition.
Jamaica Tallawahs, on the other hand, are placed second in the points table. They beat Trinbago Knight Riders comprehensively in their previous fixture but failed to carry forward the winning momentum to lose against the Royals. They will face the defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their next clash and will look to get back to winning ways.
Player of the Match
Obed McCoy was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling figures of 3/24.
Everyone is gelling together. We are having fun. Was a pretty good effort. I always strive for consistency. I normally watch the feet of the batter. Given the conditions of the ground and the pitch, I try different things.
– Obed McCoy
Have spoken about momentum in these kind of competitions. Good team performance from everyone in almost every game. Good to start well. Chasing 150 odd, you need a good start.
– David Miller, Barbados Royals Skipper
