Barbados Royals beat Trinbago Knight Riders by D/L Method: The eighth match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 saw Barbados Royals take on the Trinbago Knight Riders at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet in St Lucia. The Royals won the game comprehensively by 80 runs on the DLS method.
Trinbago Knight Riders skipper Kieron Pollard won the toss and asked Barbados Royals to bat first. The Royals got off to a fantastic start, thanks to their opening pair Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock. Both scored 60 at the end of the powerplay as they took on the bowling from the word go. The 85-run stand was broken in the 10th over when Mayers was dismissed on 52 off 33 balls.
de Kock departed in the 14th over on 44 but not before laying a solid foundation for his side to finish on a high. Skipper David Miller walked in to bat and played an exceptional knock of 60 off just 35 balls to power his side to 194 at the end of the 20 overs. The Knight Riders picked up four wickets in total but failed to keep a check on the scoring rate.
Chasing 195, the Knight Riders never got going as their batters failed to adapt to the conditions. The Royals bowled brilliantly upfront and troubled the Knight Riders’ batters. The Knight Riders were reeling at 42/6 at the end of the powerplay. They lost another as they were 51/7 at the end of the eight overs.
Rain arrived and the game stopped. The rain was heavy enough and as a result, the umpires decided to call off the game. As a result, the Royals won the game by 80 runs on the DLS method. Oshane Thomas, Obed McCoy, and Devon Thomas picked up two wickets each for the Royals as they completed a comprehensive win over the Knight Riders.
