5/5 - (3 votes)

Bowlers help the Trinbago: Trinbago Knight Riders beat Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 18th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022. A solid all-round performance saw the Knight Riders complete a convincing win in front of their home crowd.

The Knight Riders had a worst start to their innings as they lost Tion Webster on the very first ball. Nicholas Pooran along with Colin Munro started the recovery work but the former departed on 15 in the third over. The Kiwi pair of Munro and Tim Seifert started building a partnership. Munro looked good for his 42 before getting dismissed in the 12th over.

The Knight Riders lost their way a bit as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sunil Narine’s cameo of 26 helped them reach the 150-run mark at the end of their 20 overs. Tabraiz Shamsi starred with the ball for the Warriors, picking up four wickets. Romario Shepherd also chipped in with three.

Chasing 151, the Warriors also had a similar start to their innings, losing Paul Stirling on a duck in the very first over. Chandrapaul Hemraj played some wonderful strokes but it was a short stay for him as he fell on 28. They were 54/3 at the end of the powerplay. The lack of significant partnerships hurt them.

The Knight Riders kept pegging the Warriors with timely wickets. As a result, the Warriors were bundled out on 124 in 17.5 overs, losing the game by 26 runs. Akeal Hosein and Andre Russell picked up three wickets apiece. Sunil Narine as always bowled a brilliant spell of 2/9 in his four overs.

Trinbago Knight Riders lost their way after getting off to a winning start. Their second game was washed out due to rain and lost the next three. They needed an all-round performance and they stepped up in front of their home crowd to beat the Warriors to grab their second win. They move to the fourth position and have five points under their belt.

Guyana Amazon Warriors, meanwhile, are struggling in the competition. They did win their last game against the Kings but failed to carry forward the winning momentum. They have now lost three games out of five and have only three points to their name. The Warriors are languishing at the bottom of the table and need to quickly turn the tables around to keep their CPL 2022 playoffs hopes alive.

Player of the Match

Sunil Narine was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent bowling figures of 4-0-9-2.

Just build a partnership and take it as deep as possible for Pollard to come and execute what he does best. Set up the game in the powerplay and then ask the spinners to do their thing was the talk during the innings break.

– Sunil Narine

We spoke in the dressing room, we have not been playing well but the guys wanted it badly. Total team effort, finally got the win at home. Hopefully we can go and look back on what we can do better and prepare for our games

– Kieron Pollard, Trinbago Knight Riders Skipper
