CPL 2022: Match 25 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 saw Guyana Amazon Warriors take on Jamaica Tallawahs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The Warriors defeat the Tallawahs by 12 runs to keep their playoffs hopes alive. Brandon King’s ton in vain!
It was Rovman Powell, Jamaica Tallawahs skipper, who won the toss and decided to field first. They had a decent start with the ball, dismissing both the Warriors’ openers early in the innings. Imad Wasim’s impressive season continued as he trapped Shakib Al Hasan on a golden duck as the Tallawahs struggled at 37/3 at the end of the powerplay. Shai Hope was going strong from one end but he needed support from the other end.
Hope played some wonderful strokes and it looked like he was playing on a different surface. He brought up his fifty but was soon dismissed on 60 by Mohammad Nabi. Hope made sure that his side gets a platform for a solid finish. Cameos from Odean Smith (42 off 16 balls) and Keemo Paul (24* off 12 balls) powered them to 178 at the end of their 20 overs. Nabi finished with three wickets as the Tallawahs picked up eight wickets in total.
Brandon King’s ton in vain: Jamaica Tallawahs had a very good start to their chase. Brandon King, opening the batting, took on the bowling from the word go as they scored 45 at the end of the fielding restrictions for the loss of one wicket. Kirk McKenzie fell on 15 and it led to a collapse. King was playing beautiful but the other batters faltered at the other end.
King looked unstoppable and brought up a sensational ton. The other batters couldn’t support him as King’s heroics with the bat weren’t enough as they were bundled out on 166, falling short by 12 runs. King was dismissed on 104 in the last over and that brought curtains to the chase. Gudakesh Motie, Imran Tahir, and Odean Smith picked up two scalps apiece for the Warriors.

Player of the Match
Odean Smith grabbed the Player of the Match for his all-round show.
I went out there and I knew what I had to do. The wicket was very good. Just stood my ground, kept my base and hit the ball. We were trying to get 160, very good that we got to 168. Keep believing and keep supporting us. Hopefully with the fans, we can win the remaining three games of the competition.– Odean Smith
I was trying to be calm to make sure the guys are calm as well. If I had shown pressure, it would have oozed out to the guys as well. The points are always good. We are trying to build some momentum. The crowd really helps up, good to have the home advantage.– Shimron Hetmyer, Guyana Amazon Warriors Skipper
