Sixth Successive win for Royals: The Trinidad leg of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 kicked off with Trinbago Knight Riders locking horns against Barbados Royals in the 16th match of the league. The Queen’s Park Oval Port of Spain in Trinidad hosted this contest where the Royals continued their rich form and have taken their winning streak to six.
The Knight Riders got off to a steady start with the bat. Nicholas Pooran was promoted up the order along with Tion Webster. Rahkeem Cornwall and Mujeeb Ur Rahman ran through the Royals’ batting lineup. Sunil Narine, coming in at six, supported Pooran from the other end.
Pooran scored a fighting fifty but departed on 52 in the 16th over. In the next over, Narine fell on 30 and it led to a collapse as they were bundled out on 132. Mujeeb picked up three wickets for the Royals. Cornwall, Jason Holder, and Obey McCoy grabbed two each.
Cornwall departed cheaply in the second over of the chase. In-form Corbin Bosch joined Kyle Mayers and started to take the Royals back on track in the chase. There was no stopping Mayers as he took on the bowling from the word go and helped his side score 58 at the end of the powerplay bringing up his individual fifty.
The Royals were going just below 10 runs per over before the opening batter departed on 79 off just 36 balls. His knock comprised 10 fours and 5 maximums. Quinton de Kock joined Bosch and both remained unbeaten on 12 and 33 respectively to help them chase down the total with ease. Daryn Dupavillon picked up two wickets for the Knight Riders but they were beaten comprehensively in front of their home crowd.
Trinbago Knight Riders start their home leg with a loss
Trinbago Knight Riders are not having the best of seasons. They are struggling and reeling at the bottom of the points table. They have managed to win only a single game out of five, with their recent loss coming against the Royals in front of their home crowd. Time is running out for them and will hope that they turn the tables around quickly to keep their playoffs hopes alive in the CPL 2022.
Barbados Royals, on the other hand, are on a roll in this year’s competition. They have played six games so far and are yet to lose a single game. They have looked like one of the sides to beat in the CPL 2022. The Royals have a very good balance to their side and everyone is stepping up, making their favorites this season to lift the title.
Player of the Match
Kyle Mayers grabbed the Player of the Match award for his scintillating knock of 79 off just 36 balls.
I’m just staying positive and enjoying the team environment. Knowing my role and doing it well. Staying aggressive as possible and putting the bowlers under pressure. The guys are willing to go out and play for each other.– Kyle Mayers
The guys contributing at different stages is really amazing. Mayers today was amazing, the shot selection and the power was really great to see. Bowlers set it up for us, they executed well.– David Miller, Barbados Royals Skipper
