CPL 2022: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shai Hope help the Warriors beat the Kings in a high-scoring affair

The Warriors beat The Kings: Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Saint Lucia Kings in the 27th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022. It was a high-scoring affair and the fans at Providence Stadium in Guyana were treated with some thrilling action where the home side came victorious.
After electing to bat first on a good-looking surface, skipper Faf du Plessis led from the front and have the Kings a scintillating start. They lost Mark Deyal in the very first over on a duck but there was no stopping du Plessis as he took on the bowling from the word go and helped his side score 62 at the end of the powerplay. Wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella supported his skipper nicely from the other end.
Both du Plessis and Dickwella put 132 between them before the latter was dismissed on 36. du Plessis brought up his ton and the marathon innings came to an end in the 18th over when he was cleaned up by Odean Smith on 103 off 59 balls. It included 10 fours and six maximums. Roston Chase (17* off 7 balls) provided the finishing touches as the hosts finished their innings on 194/5. Shakib Al Hasan for the Warriors picked up two wickets.
Chasing a mammoth total, the Warriors got off to a flying start, thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Chandrapaul Hemraj. Both put 71 between at the end of the fielding restrictions as the Kings had no answer to this onslaught at the top. Hemraj was dismissed on 29 and Gurbaz brought up his fifty but departed soon on 52 off just 26 balls. The Warriors lost Shakib on the next ball and the Kings pulled back things in the middle overs.
Shai Hope along with his skipper Shimron Hetmyer started building a partnership. Hope looked good and they both stitched 63 between them before Hetmyer fell on 36. Hope teed off after his skipper’s departure and scored a match-winning fifty as he remained unbeaten on 59 to help his side chase down their highest-ever score in CPL. The Kings picked up four wickets in total, with Mark Deyal finishing with two but they failed to defend this massive total.

Player of the Match
Shai Hope was named the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock of 59*.
Feels good to get out there and do what I love, which is batting. Missed a few games early on. We had self-belief, we wanted to stick to our plans and were confident of chasing the total. I never played in front of such a great crowd, hopefully we can get them more wins.
– Shai Hope
Coming home, we knew we had to do our best and the guys continued to deliver time and time again. Well done to the guys. When you are chasing 190-odd, you just tell the guys that you have nothing to lose. That was the thinking and it worked for us.
– Shimron Hetmyer, Guyana Amazon Warriors Skipper
