CPL 2022: Saint Lucia Kings finish the home leg with a win: Match 15 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 saw Saint Lucia Kings take on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Daren Sammy International Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet in St Lucia. The Kings displayed a brilliant performance in the last game of the Saint Lucia leg of this year’s competition to win in front of their home crowd.

After being asked to bat first, the opening duo of Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis got the Kings off to a flyer, as they have been doing so far in this edition of the CPL. They scored 61 at the end of the powerplay. Dwaine Pretorius finally provided the first breakthrough for his side when he dismissed Charles on 41 as the 86-run opening stand came to an end. It provided an opening for the Patriots.

The middle order was blown away and none of the batters contributed. du Plessis brought up his fifty but departed on 60. There was a collapse in the end as the Kings lost their last six wickets for just 49 runs as they ended their innings on 161/9. Pretorius picked up three wickets. Sheldon Cottrell and Akila Dananjaya finished with two each.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots had a shaky start to the chase, losing Andre Fletcher on a duck on the fourth ball of the innings. Evin Lewis breezy knock of 24 off 9 balls came to an end in the third over. They scored 48 at the end of the fielding restrictions but had lost three wickets. Darren Bravo, coming in at four, tried to resurrect the innings but lacked support from the other end.

The batters failed to adapt to the conditions as there was no significant contributions from them. Bravo fell on 20 and they were bundled out on 100 in 19 overs, losing the game by 61 runs. It was a combined effort from the bowlers, with Matthew Forde and David Wiese picking up three wickets apiece. Alzarri Joseph and Roshon Primus also chipped in with two each to help their side defend the total successfully.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots suffer their third loss of the CPL 2022

Nothing is going right for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the moment. They have now suffered their third loss of this year’s competition and have only four points to their name. They will quickly need to go back to the drawing board and get their things right in the CPL 2022.

Saint Lucia, meanwhile, after losing two consecutive games have got back to winning ways. An all-round effort saw them beat the defending champions comprehensively. It will be a reverse fixture on Saturday and they will look to repeat their performance against the Patriots.

Player of the Match

Matthew Forde was adjudged the Player of the Match for his bowling figures of 3/19 in his three overs.

A Lot of planning goes into the games we play. I enjoyed all the wickets. Really happy to perform for my team. I was comfortable batting.

We needed that. I thought 160 was too short because it has been better to bat in the second innings. The first six overs we have really capitalized, so that’s a positive. But we are making the same mistake towards 14-15 overs.

Score Summary:

Saint Lucia Kings: 161/9 (20)

(Faf du Plessis 60, Johnson Charles 41, Dwaine Pretorius 3/37)

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots: 100 (19)

(Evin Lewis 24, Darren Bravo 20, David Wiese 3/17)
