It’s Comprehensive Win for Jamaica Tallawahs in the opening game in The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 kicked off on August 31st, with Jamaica Tallawahs locking horns against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the opening game at Warner Park in Basseterre in St Kitts. The Tallawahs defeated the Patriots comprehensively to get off to a winning start.
Dwayne Brave, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots skipper won the toss and opted to bowl first. Brandon King and Kennar Lewis got the Tallawahs off to a solid start. They scored 48 at the end of the powerplay and never allowed the Patriots’ bowlers to settle in. They both put up a fantastic opening stand of 116.
Lewis fell two short of his half-century but King was going strong from one end and he was dismissed on 89 off just 57 balls in the last over. Rovman Powell’s sensational cameo (30*9 off 15 balls) helped them post 183 on the board, losing only two wickets.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots had a steady start to their chase. Andre Fletcher looked good at the top of the order for them but lacked support from the other end. He scored 31 but fell in the 11th over. Sherfane Rutherford came in at five and hit some lusty blows to keep the Patriots in the contest.
Rutherford departed on 33 and a collapse in the end resulted in them finishing their innings on 136/8. The Tallawahs bowled brilliantly, with Nicholson Gordon finishing with three scalps as they completed a comprehensive win by 47 runs.
Jamaica Tallawahs get off to a winning start to the CPL 2022
Jamaica Tallawahs’ top-order batters set up things nicely for them before the bowlers did their job to beat the defending champions to start the CPL 2022 on a winning note. It was a good all-round performance from them and will look to keep performing in a similar fashion in the upcoming games.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ bowlers failed to deliver in their opening game of the CPL 2022. They managed to pick only two wickets in their 20 overs and as a result, were chasing a massive total which they failed to do. Dwayne Bravo will be hoping for a much-improved performance from his side in their next fixture which will be against Barbados Royals.
Player of the Match
Brandon King was named the player of the match for his knock of 89 at the top of the order.
I am extremely happy (with his innings), playing for my home franchise. Wasn’t easy going out there first. I just tried to keep calm and not panic. It was good that we had wickets in hand. The pitch was difficult to bat but we got a good total.– Brandon King
It depends on the surface (talking about the batting approach) and it’s good that we have so much power in our batting. The guys bowled well and King was exceptional, he was very fluent. All in all, guys played some good cricket today,– Rovman Powell, Jamaica Tallawahs Skipper
