The Guyana Amazon Warriors lost both their openers early in the innings. The Jamaica Tallawahs’ bowlers bowled brilliantly and restricted the Warriors to 15/2 at the end of the powerplay. Shai Hope along with his skipper Shimron Hetmyer led the recovery work for the Warriors.

They put up a 66-run stand before Hope departed on 25. Hetmyer looked good for his 39 and cameos from Romario Shepherd (36 off 17 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (22* off 15 balls) helped them post 142 on the board. Mohammad Amir finished with three wickets for the Tallawahs as they picked up six wickets in total.

The Tallawahs had a steady start to the chase, scoring 33 at the end of the powerplay for the loss of two wickets. Brandon King played a good hand of 32 at the top of the order before getting dismissed on 32 in the seventh over. Rovman Powell took some time to settle in.

Once Powell got his eye in, he started taking on the bowling but lacked support from the other end. The Tallawahs kept losing wickets at regular intervals and the game went down to the wire. Powell hit some lusty blows and remained unbeaten on 44 to guide his side across the line with four balls to spare to win the game by four wickets.

Player of the Match

Mohammad Amir was adjudged the player of the match for his outstanding bowling figures of 3/22 in his four overs.

We took proper advantage of the toss. Yesterday, it was raining. As a a new ball bowler, I was getting something out of the wicket. That was the main reason. The wicket was getting better. We knew they have good spinners. But credit goes to Rovman, he played very well.

– Mohammad Amir

It’s a bit bruised (on the leg injury), hopefully, it’ll be worked on tonight and I should be fine. It was difficult (on the chase), they had international spinners, that gave them 12 overs, but I knew the wicket was good to play.

– Rovman Powell, Jamaica Tallawahs Skipper
