The Providence Stadium in Guyana hosted this exciting contest where the Tallawahs beat the Kings convincingly to keep themselves alive in the competition.

After being asked to bat first, the Tallawahs didn’t have the best of starts to their innings as they lost their in-form batter Brandon King in the fourth over on seven. Kennar Lewis followed his partner on 10 as they were reeling at 29/2 at the end of the powerplay. Shamarh Brooks looked good at one end but he lacked support from the other end.

Brooks along with Raymon Reifer started building a partnership for the fourth wicket. Brooks played some wonderful strokes but fell three short of his half-century. Mohammad Nabi walked in at seven and played a fantastic cameo of 31* off just 15 balls to help his side post a competitive total on the board. The Tallawahs finished their innings on 148/8. David Wiese starred with the ball for the Kings, finishing with figures of 3/19 in his four overs. Alzarri Joseph also chipped in with a couple of scalps.

Skipper Faf du Plessis was going strong at one end but he lacked support from the other end as the Kings kept losing wickets at regular intervals. du Plessis was knocked over by Fabian Allen on 41 and it helped the Tallawahs pull back things in the middle overs.

The spinners bowled brilliantly and kept a check on the scoring rate. The Kings’ batters never got going and as a result, the required run rate crept up. Alzarri Joseph lower down the order tried hard and kept his side in the chase. He remained unbeaten on 28 off 18 balls but it wasn’t enough on the day as they were bundled out on 115, losing the game by 33 runs. Allen and Nabi grabbed three wickets each for the Tallawahs. With this, the Tallawahs seal a berth in the second qualifier.

Player of the Match

Mohammad Nabi grabbed the Player of the Match award for his all-round show which helps Tallawahs advance to the qualifier (Second).

We performed well after a long time in the field, it felt very good. The wicket wasn’t that easy, you needed to spend some time and so I targeted the last couple of overs looking to get to 150. We felt it was an even score, just wanted to bowl straight and keep them under pressure.

– Mohammad Nabi

It was an important night, credit to the boys, Nabi gave us a score and then the boys did well with the ball. It was a tough wicket, but I knew the spinners would do well. We needed to take wickets in clusters, it wasn’t spinning, so the bowlers needed to be accurate.

– Rovman Powell, Jamaica Tallawahs’ Skipper
