Kyle Mayers shines in Barbados Royals: Match six of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 saw Barbados Royal square off against Saint Lucia Kings. It was a rain-marred contest and the Royals won the game to make it two in two in this year’s competition.
The Barbados Royals got off to a flying start. Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers played some outstanding strokes against the new ball and scored 57 at the end of the fielding restrictions. The contributions from the top-order batters in Cornwall (32), Mayers 36), and Quinton de Kock (24) helped them lay a foundation for a strong finish.
Skipper David Miller remained unbeaten on 24 off 15 balls to power his side to 162 at the end of their 20 overs. Joshua Bishop also hit 10 off three balls. Alzarri Joseph, Scott Kuggeleijn, and Mark Deyal picked up two wickets apiece for the Kings.
The second innings was reduced to nine overs due to rain. The revised target for the Kings was 103 according to the DLS method. They had a worst possible start to the chase as they lost four wickets in the first three overs, with the score reading 7/4. Alzarri Joseph joined skipper Faf du Plessis and started to steady the ship.
The pair tried hard but it just wasn’t enough for them as they managed to score 91 at the end of their nine overs, falling short by 11 runs. du Plessis and Joseph’s knocks of 47* and 29* resulted in vain as they suffered another loss in the competition. Kyle Mayers ran through the Kings’ batting order as he picked up four wickets and set up a win for his side.

Pretty simple plan, to go there in the powerplay and express myself. Keep things simple, I’m used to opening the bowling and it was about using the conditions. I was a bit concerned with Faf and Alzarri scoring after the rain delay, it became a good pitch.

It was 92 needed off 5 overs, you think we’d close it off but they batted really well. Happy that we could ultimately close it off. The weather is what it is, we can’t control it. We thought it would be slow and turn, but it came on pretty well and so we started off with Kyle Mayers.
