MS Dhoni Farewell Match: CSK official confirms MS Dhoni’s FAREWELL date; Thala Dhoni will play his last IPL match on May 14 against KKR at Chepauk

MS Dhoni Farewell Match: The scene has been set. Thala Dhoni‘s farewell match will take place on May 14 at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. The announcement of the IPL 2023 schedule on Friday set the scenario for Dhoni’s farewell match. If CSK do not make the playoffs, he will play his farewell game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK will kick off their season against the defending champions, the Gujarat Titans.
Dhoni has been the captain of CSK since its inception in 2008. He returned to head the club after serving a two-year ban. Dhoni handed over the leadership to Ravindra Jadeja last season. Unfortunately, it backfired as CSK struggled under Jadeja’s captaincy.
After only eight games, the former India captain reclaimed the captaincy but was unable to save CSK’s season. This season, CSK will start as favourites, with Dhoni aiming to finish on a high note by bringing CSK their fifth IPL trophy. If CSK fails to qualify for the playoffs, his final home game would be against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 14 at Chepauk Stadium.
“Yes, it will be MS’s last season as a player. That is what we know so far. But of course, it’s his decision. He hasn’t officially communicated to the management that he will go into retirement. It is a special occasion for all CSK fans as IPL returns to Chennai. But it will be a sad moment if Dhoni plays his final season,”

Dhoni’s retirement raises a succession issue. While Ben Stokes is the favourite to follow Dhoni, CSK is considering two other candidates: Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Stokes may not be available for the playoff stage since England begins a Test series against Ireland on June 1.
Although Dhoni will lead CSK this time as England’s Test captain, Stokes may face a similar predicament in future IPL seasons.
