BPH vs MNR: Match 28 of the Hundred Men’s Competition 2022 saw Birmingham Phoenix lock horns against Manchester Originals at Edgbaston in Birmingham. A solid all-round performance from the Originals saw them defeat Phoenix comprehensively.
After electing to bat first, the Originals got off to a very good start, thanks to in-form opener Philip Salt. There were contributions from the middle-order batters but there was no stopping Salt as he brought up his fifty in no time.
The Phoenix bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Salt’s innings of 56 had laid a platform for a strong finish for the Originals. A fantastic cameo from Tom Lammonby (26* off 12 balls) lower down the order powered them to 154/6 at the end of their 100 balls. Benny Howell and Kane Richardson picked up three and two wickets respectively for the hosts.
Phoenix didn’t have a good start to their chase as they lost Miles Hammond and Moeen Ali in the first set. Will Smeed was looking good at the top of the order but departed on 31 off 17 balls, with the scoreboard reading 54/4 at the end of 38 balls.
What followed was a disappointing effort from the Phoenix’s batters as none of them adapted to the conditions and fell in single-digit scores as they were bundled out on 75 in 74 balls. Tom Hartley starred with the ball for the Originals, picking up four wickets. Joshua Little also chipped in with a couple of scalps.

Was a nice wicket to bowl on. Tried to use the pitch. I hoped to get some turn seeing the Women’s game.
We thought we had a good score on the board. Had to use the cutters well and also the spinners. We lost the first three but have picked up the rhythm at the right time.
