Northern Superchargers beat Welsh Fire: Welsh Fire locked horns against Northern Superchargers in the 26th match of the Hundred Men’s Competition 2022 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The Superchargers defeated the Fire convincingly to grab their third win of the competition.
Welsh Fire skipper Josh Cobb won the toss and opted to bat first. They didn’t have the best of starts to their innings as they lost both their openers with 29 on the board. Experienced campaigner Ben Duckett walked in to bat at three and played a fantastic knock. He held the innings nicely from one end.
Duckett brought up his fifty but they lost two more wickets in quick succession. Duckett remained unbeaten on 64 and was well-supported by Leus du Plooy (21*) as it helped them post a respectable total on the board. Craig Miles for the Superchargers picked up two wickets.
Chasing a below-par total, the Superchargers had a fantastic start as both their openers gave them a solid start. Both put 75 between them before Adam Lyth departed three short of his half-century. Skipper Faf du Plessis looked good for his 32 but departed on the 59th ball.
du Plessis’ departure led to a mini-collapse but they had already been close to the target and they chased it down with nine balls to spare. Ish Sodhi for Fire picked up two wickets but it wasn’t enough as they managed to pick only four wickets.

Very pleased to get the win. Would have loved to get few more. We took it as just another game. The bowlers were excellent in the first half. Then me and Faf put on a partnership. We got the best of the conditions. We spoke about the NRR during the time-out but we lost a few wickets.
