Northern Superchargers’: Edgbaston in Birmingham hosted the 19th match of the Hundred Men’s Competition 2022. Birmingham Phoenix took on the Northern Superchargers in which the Superchargers defeated the home side convincingly.
Birmingham Phoenix skipper Moeen Ali won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Superchargers lost their skipper Faf du Plessis early in their innings on nine. Adam Lyth and Adam Hose joined hands and scored at a brisk rate. Lyth brought up his fifty but was soon cleaned up by Ali on 56.
Adam Hose continued playing his strokes from the other end but lacked support from the other end. David Wiese walked in to bat and played a fantastic cameo of 34 off just 14 balls, which included 1 four and four maximums. Hose remained unbeaten on 53 to power his side to 169 at the end of their full quota of 100 balls. Ali and Kane Richardson for Phoenix picked up two wickets apiece.
Birmingham Phoenix had a solid start to their chase. Just when the opening partnership was starting to flourish, Will Smeed departed on 15. It created an opening for the Superchargers as they ran through the Phoenix batting order.
Miles Hammond looked good for his 31 but there were no significant contributions from the other batters as they only managed to score 137 at the end of their innings, losing the game by 32 runs. Each Superchargers bowler picked up at least a wicket, with Wiese finishing with three. David Willey also chipped in with two to help them win the game convincingly.
Northern Superchargers get back to winning ways after losing three on the trot in the Hundred 2022
The Northern Superchargers won their opening game of the competition. They lost their way as they lost the next three games but have got back to winning ways after beating Phoenix on Friday. They now have four points to their name and are placed sixth in the points table.
Birmingham Phoenix have lost their second game in this year’s competition. It was their first defeat at home in the Hundred’s history. Moeen Ali’s men were outplayed by the Superchargers and will look to get back to winning ways in their next fixture of the Hundred 2022.
Player of the Match
David Wiese was named the player of the match for his outstanding all-round display against Birmingham Phoenix helps Northern Superchargers’ to win.
He was quoted, “Sometimes it works out for you, got a couple off the middle (with the bat). Guys have been giving us good starts and I’m glad it came off today. It’s all about confidence when you go out there.”
You have to believe that if something is in your zone, you can capitalize on it, whether it’s your first ball or fifth ball. We knew we had to do some hard work to qualify and it’s nice to get some momentum”, he concluded.
