Xavi on Messi: Messi? This is his home and the doors are open to him – Barcelona FCB
Xavi on Messi: Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández has opened the door to Leo Messi’s return from PSG, who he joined in the summer of 2021. Xavi recently stated that he has been in communication with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) ace Lionel Messi on a daily basis. The latter’s deal with PSG is currently a heated subject.
Xavi was asked if he was in communication with Lionel Messi while addressing to the media before of their UEFA Europa League match against Manchester United.
Xavi said that he is acquainted with the tiny magician and that they are in ‘constant communication’. The former midfielder, however, maintained that the choice to return to Barcelona was made exclusively on the basis of the player’s ability to perform.
According to BBC Sport, Messi’s new deal will run until June 2024 but it will also include a one-year extension option, meaning he could now remain in Paris until the summer of 2025.
The Spanish newspaper’s revelations detail how Messi wanted a three-year deal until 2023 with a €10 million signing bonus.
Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG in August 2021 and both parties have agreed to an extension. Wonder why Messi left?
“I’ve said it more than once, the doors are always open for him. He is a friend, and we are in permanent contact. It will depend on what he wants to do, and also on what fits the club. He’s the best player in history, he’d always fit it.”Xavi
