Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher hailed underperforming Suryakumar Yadav as a complete team man, as he showed a lot of grit and determination to bat for the five-time champions despite being hit on the eyes in the field against DC.

The world number one T20I batter has been through a tough time in his cricketing career as he struggled to find form starting from his forgettable debut in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

“He did get hit on the field, he came in, and his eye was starting to swell. He had to ice it. I came in thinking, maybe we move him down in the order. He meets me in the bathroom and says, ‘coach, actually I want to bat 4’. For me, that’s not shying away from anything,” Mark Boucher Said

During the first innings against DC, Mumbai Indians faced a big setback as Suryakumar Yadav was hit above his eye while fielding in the 17th over as Suryakumar dropped Axar Patel and the ball hit above his eye and walked off the field.

Mark Boucher asserted Suryakumar Yadav as a kind of character any team would love to have and stated when the things get tougher, they never want to hide in the dressing room instead they well try to express them in the field.

“These are the type of characters you want in the dressing room. When the times are tough, they’re not scared to hide on the back of the change room. They want to go out there. So, well done,” Boucher added.

Suryakumar Yadav has been struggling in recent times following his three consecutive first-ball ducks in the three ODIs between India and Australia. The 32-year-old has scored only 16 runs in three matches he played so far in IPL 2023.
