Rachin Ravindra Struggle in Visakhapatnam: In a thrilling encounter on March 31st, 2024, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 13th match of the IPL 2024 T20 cricket series. The match, held in Visakhapatnam, witnessed a power-packed performance from both sides, ultimately culminating in Delhi’s triumph by a margin of 20 runs.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals set an imposing target of 192 runs for Chennai to chase. The foundation of their innings was laid by Prithvi Shah, David Warner, and captain Rishabh Pant, who scored 43, 52, and 51 runs respectively. Despite commendable efforts from Chennai’s bowlers, notably Bhadirana who took three crucial wickets, Delhi managed to set a challenging total.

However, Chennai’s chase didn’t begin as smoothly as they would have hoped. Captain Ruduraj departed early, managing only 1 run, while Rachin Ravindra, the promising young talent from New Zealand, failed to replicate his earlier successes. Ravindra, who had made an impressive debut for CSK, scoring 280 and 200 runs in the first two matches, faced a formidable challenge against Delhi’s bowling attack. Struggling to contend with the swinging deliveries, Ravindra faced 12 balls but could only muster 2 runs before being dismissed.

Ravindra’s dismissal dealt a significant blow to Chennai’s aspirations, and despite valiant efforts from other batsmen like Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and the ever-dependable MS Dhoni, they fell short of the target. Dhoni’s resilient innings of 37 runs off just 16 balls injected a late surge of hope for CSK, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory.

One of the notable statistics to emerge from the match was Ravindra’s unusually low strike rate of 16.67, having scored just 2 runs off 12 balls. This performance marked the lowest strike rate for a CSK player facing at least 10 balls in an IPL innings, eclipsing the previous record held by Murali Vijay.

Prior to this match, Murali Vijay had scored 3 runs off 14 balls at a strike rate of 21.42 against the Deccan Chargers on March 1, 2011. Ravindra’s struggle against Delhi Capitals not only impacted CSK’s chances in the game but also resulted in them losing their position at the top of the points table.

Despite the setback, Chennai Super Kings remain a formidable force in the IPL, and Rachin Ravindra’s talent and potential are undeniable. As the tournament progresses, both CSK and Ravindra will be eager to bounce back from this defeat and showcase their resilience in the matches to come.
