In a thrilling encounter on April 25, Bengaluru defeated Hyderabad by 35 runs in the 41st match of the IPL 2024 T20 Cricket Series. Batting first, Bengaluru set a target of 207 runs in the match held in Hyderabad. Virat Kohli led the charge with a well-compiled 51, ably supported by Rajab Patidar who scored 50 runs. However, the middle order failed to capitalize on the good start, with Travis Head (1), Aiden Markram (7), Henrich Clausen (7), and Nitish Reddy (13) getting out cheaply.

Hyderabad, known for its formidable batting lineup, found themselves struggling at 69/5. Sabash Ahmed unbeaten 40* and Captain Pat Cummins’ 31 runs provided some resistance. However, Bengaluru’s bowlers, led by Swapnil Singh, Cameron Green, and Karan Sharma, restricted Hyderabad to 171/8 in their 20 overs.

This victory was crucial for Bengaluru, marking only their second win of the season after 30 days. On the other hand, Hyderabad, who had defeated strong teams like Mumbai and CSK earlier in the season, had accumulated 287 runs against Bengaluru in their previous encounter. Moreover, they had set a world record by scoring 100 runs in the first 5 overs against Delhi.

Despite their aggressive batting prowess, Hyderabad’s weakness in chasing big totals was exposed by Bengaluru. Out of the 14 times Hyderabad has chased more than 200 runs in the history of IPL, they have lost 13 times and won only once, including yesterday match.

Bengaluru decision to bat first, despite winning the toss, paid off as they managed to set a challenging target. Hyderabad, known for its explosive batting, found the going tough while chasing, registering their first home defeat of the year.

Looking ahead, CSK is set to face Hyderabad in their next match. Given Hyderabad vulnerability in chasing big totals, CSK will look to capitalize on this weakness. If CSK can put up a good total of 200-230+ runs, they stand a good chance of defeating Hyderabad, just as Bengaluru did.

As the IPL 2024 T20 Cricket Series progresses, teams are closely studying their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, aiming to gain crucial points and secure their spot in the playoffs.
