Lucknow Super Giants’ fast bowler, Shivam Mavi, has been dealt a blow in IPL 2024 as he has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Mavi, who was yet to make an appearance for his team this season, expressed his disappointment in a video posted by the franchise on Instagram.

“I will miss [the tournament] a lot. I had come here after an injury and had thought I would play matches for my team and do well. But unfortunately, I will have to leave because I have suffered an injury,” Mavi said, though the exact nature of the injury was not specified in the video.

Subsequent reports from PTI indicated that Mavi’s injury is related to his rib. This setback comes as a setback for the young cricketer who was eager to make an impact for his team this season.

“A cricketer has to be mentally strong for this. If you have an injury, you need to see what you have to do to make a comeback, what things you need to take care of,” Mavi added, showcasing resilience despite the setback.

Mavi, who was bought by LSG for a significant sum of INR 6.4 crores at this year’s auction, last played a competitive match in August 2023, further highlighting the frustration of not being able to showcase his talent on the field.

Lucknow Super Giants, currently positioned fourth on the points table with two wins from three games, will now have to navigate the rest of the tournament without Mavi’s services. The team management has yet to announce a replacement for the injured bowler.

“We got a very good team,” Mavi said, expressing his confidence in his teammates. “I will keep cheering for the team and hopefully, we will win.”

LSG now face the challenge of finding the right balance in their bowling attack in the absence of Mavi. They have a pool of seam-bowling options including Matt Henry, Shamar Joseph, Mohsin Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur, Arshad Khan, and Yudhvir Singh, among others, to choose from.

As the tournament progresses, Lucknow Super Giants will look to regroup and continue their campaign with renewed vigor, hoping to compensate for the absence of Shivam Mavi and maintain their momentum in IPL 2024.
