Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants smashed the fastest fifty of IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday. Pooran brought up his half-century off 15 balls, with a six off Wayne Parnell in the 16th over.
Pooran’s impressive performance in the IPL 2023 has earned him a spot in the IPL record books in the history. His 15-ball fifty is the joint-second fastest in the tournament’s history, alongside Sunil Narine and Yusuf Pathan. The fastest IPL fifty record is held by KL Rahul and Pat Cummins, who achieved the feat in just 14 balls.
During a recent match, Pooran fell for a 19-ball 62, which included four fours and seven sixes. His outstanding performance put Lucknow in the driver’s seat while chasing a mammoth 213. It’s no wonder that the West Indies cricketer was bought for a whopping Rs. 16 crore by the Lucknow franchise at the IPL 2023 auction.
In the previous season, Pooran played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored an impressive 306 runs in 14 matches while striking at 144.34. He made his IPL debut in 2019 for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and played three seasons (2019-21) for the franchise.
With 51 IPL matches under his belt, Pooran has amassed 1053 runs with a strike rate at an impressive 157.87.
