Who is Tim David? Meet the New IPL Millionnaire and Singapore-Australian Cricketer

Tim David has earned himself a massive payday as the Mumbai Indians acquired his services for the upcoming IPL season for AUD$1.53 million.
David, who was born in Singapore, became Australia’s highest earner in the IPL as Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Aaron Finch went unsold at the auction.
Singapore international cricketer Tim David (Now Australian Cricketer) was signed by Mumbai Indians for Rs 8.25 crore at the IPL 2022 auction in Bengaluru on Sunday. David was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore as replacement for Finn Allen in IPL 2021, and played a solitary match in the season.
cricket news writer and commentators said that David was the biggest surprise to come out of the IPL auction.
“Tim David … not many people, except hard cricket followers, would really have heard of him,”
“Tim David overtook Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh.
“He (David) was the highest paid Australian at the IPL auction.”
David, who grew up in Perth, has become a white ball specialist and has played for several T20 franchises in Australia, England, India, Pakistan, and the Caribbean.
David is emblematic of the new generation of cricketers who are ditching domestic cricket and the baggy green to earn millions of dollars playing in T20 tournaments around the world and all year round.
“He’s never played a Sheffield Shield game,” Horne said on David.
“He’s played 16 (domestic) games mostly for Western Australia.”
Horne says now that the international spotlight is on Tim David after the auction, a solid IPL campaign could ignite David’s international career.
“He was born in Singapore (and) his dad played for Singapore,” he said.
“But he is Australian and is eligible to play for Australia.
“If he has a big IPL on that kind of money, he may well come into contention for Australia.”
Other Australians to earn a $1 million IPL contract at the auction include Josh Hazlewood ($1.44 million), Pat Cummins ($1.35m), Mitch Marsh ($1.2m) and David Warner ($1.16m).
Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson and Ben McDermott failed to get picked up in the auction.
