LPL 2022: Dickwella shines as Colombo beat Dambulla Giants by 9 runs
Colombo stars beat Dambulla Giants in LPL 2022 Match 05: Colombo Stars beat Dambulla Giants to register their first win in the tournament. It is just the second win out of 6 matches for Colombo against Dambulla. Batting first, Colombo set a target of 166 which Giants failed to chase and lost the match by 9 runs.

First Innings
Colombo Stars won the toss and elected to bat first. The Stars were jolted by the pace of Lahiru Kumara whom picked up two wickets in teo consecutive balls in the very first over. He sent Mathews and Navod back to pavillion at 4 and 0 respectively. He reduced the batting side to 26/3 dismissing Asalanka in the third over. However Dickwella and Ravi Bopara steadied the ship, attacking the lose balls to the boundary. Ravi Bopara was playing beautifully but he ran out for 26 runs. Chandimal joined Dickwella and the duo quickfired 34 runs partnership.
Brilliant Innings by Dickwella
Niroshan Dickwell went on to score a valuable half century. He scored 62 runs in 41 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes. Ratnayake dismissed him in the 15th over. Raza sent Janat back at 2 runs. Dinesh Chandimal remained unbeaten on 29 runs. Dominic Drake’s 18 runs inning helped Colombo post 165 runs on the board.
Second Innings
Chasing 166, Shevon Daniel and Jordon Cox once again put up a brilliant half century stand for the first wicket. They made 53 runs in 4.5 overs. Dominic sent Daniel back for 28 runs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa joined Cox for the second wicket. Cox was dismissed for 29 runs by Lakmal. However Tom Abell quickly scored 33 runs in 22 balls.
Bowler comes to the rescue
It was absolutely clear that the Giants will win their first match, but the Colombo bowlers had other plans. They bowled brilliantly after the 14th over preventing them to chase 46 runs in 32 balls. Janat sent Raza back for duck, Naveen sent Lahiru back to pavillion. Skipper Dasun Shanaka however stood tall at one end, but Naveen and Janat were too good to prevent him from chasing the target. He remained unbeaten on 31 in 20 balls.
