LPL 2022: Kandy Falcons beat Galle Gladiators by 5 wickets

Kandy Falcons beat Galle Gladiators: It proved out to be a yet another low scoring match in Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Galle Gladiators faced a 5 wickets defeat against Kandy Falcons in the fourth match of the Lanka Premier League. Gladiators posted 121/8 in 20 overs which Flacons chased down in only 15 overs to register their second consecutive win in the tournament.

First Innings

Galle Gladiators won the toss and elected to bat first. Zahoor Khan dismissed opener Thanuka Dabare on the very second ball of the innings for a duck. In the second over, Carlos Braithwaite sent Azam Khan back at the score of 1 and the Gladiators were again in deep trouble losing 2 wickets for 1 run. However Nuwanidu Fernando and Mendis tried building a partnership, but Braithwaite yet again dismissed Fernando (13 runs) and Iftikhar Ahemd for a duck in three balls. Kusal Mendis could not survive much and was sent back to pavillion for 14 runs by Braithwaite.

Steady partnership takes Gladiators to a respectable total

Movin Subasingha and Imad Wasim added 65 runs for the sixth wicket. Subasingha scored 40 runs with the help of 2 sixes and 4 fours before getting dismissed to Khan and Wasim contributed 34 runs to help the team post 121 runs on the board. Carlos Braithwaite was the highest wicket taker with figures 4-1-14-4. Zahoor Khan got 2, Udana and Hasaranga shared one wicket each.

Second Innings

Chasing 122, Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher added 30 runs in 23 balls. However Fletcher fell to Pradeep at the score of 20 runs. Kamindu joined Nissanka and played beautiful shots to pull the victory away from Galle. Thusara sent Nissanka back for 22 runs. But it was too late as the job was done. Kamindu quickfired 44 runs in 34 deliveries. Fabian Allen contributed 10 runs, Hasaranga remained unbeaten on 8. With this victory, Kandy Falcons reached at the second spot in the points table. Galle Gladiators lost their second consecutive match. In the first match, Jaffna Kings defeated them.

Man of the match

Carlos Braithwaite won the man of the match award for his brilliant bowling efforts. He dismissed four batsmen to prevent Galle Gladiators put a big total.
