Mukesh Kumar in WTC: Mukesh Kumar, a talented medium pacer hailing from Bengal, has been a part of India’s cricket squads before, but is yet to make his debut on the national team. Despite this, he has been leading Bengal’s attack for quite some time now and has earned a maiden national call-up in October of last year for the home ODIs against South Africa.

Mukesh made his first-class debut in 2015 and has since taken 149 wickets in the red-ball format at an average of 21.55, including six five-wicket hauls. On his first-class debut, he dismissed the likes of Virender Sehwag and took a four-wicket haul, which helped him gain recognition.

In the 2019/20 Ranji Trophy season, Mukesh took 32 wickets in 10 matches, including a six-wicket haul in the semi-final clash against Karnataka that helped Bengal reach the final. He also dismissed KL Rahul in the first innings and other India players like Manish Pandey (both innings) and Devdutt Padikkal, finishing with eight wickets in the match.

Mukesh’s impressive performances earned him a call-up to the India A team for the unofficial Tests against New Zealand A in September 2022, where he finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker with nine scalps, taking a five-wicket haul in the first unofficial Test. He also impressed with a six-wicket haul for India A against Bangladesh in Sylhet in December of the same year.

In the IPL 2023 auctions, Mukesh secured a hefty INR 5.5 crore deal from the Delhi Capitals, where he has played eight matches and taken six wickets in the ongoing season.

However, there are increasing concerns regarding the injuries sustained by fast bowlers Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring their conditions.

As a result, Mukesh may still have the opportunity to be included in the main squad for the highly anticipated match next month.
