London Spirit move to the top of the table in The Hundred 2022: Match 24 of the Hundred Men’s Competition saw London Spirit take on Welsh Fire. A solid performance from Spirit saw them defeat Fire convincingly at the home of cricket i.e. at Lord’s in London.

After being asked to bat first, Spirit openers gave them a decent start. There were contributions from Adam Rossington (32) and Ben McDermott which helped them lay a foundation for a strong finish. Skipper Eoin Morgan departed without troubling the scorers.

Daniel Lawrence, coming in at five, played a fantastic knock of 43 of just 26 balls to help his side post 156 on the board. Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 25 of 17 balls to take his side across the 150-run mark. Ish Sodhi of Fire bowled brilliantly and finished with figures of 2/19 in his 20 balls.

Fire didn’t have the best of starts to the chase as they were reeling at 23/3 at one stage. David Miller also departed soon and they lost their four wickets with 37 on the board. Ben Duckett along with Dwaine Pretorius tried to resurrect the innings but the former departed on 34 of 19 balls.

The required run rate kept climbing up and the batters felt the pressure and got dismissed in the process. There were contributions from Pretorius (23), Leus du Plooy (30) and Matthew Critchley (21) but it wasn’t enough as they finished their innings on 139/9, falling short by 17 runs. Chris Wood and Lawrence picked up four wickets each for Spirit.

The Hundred 2022 Points Table

Welsh Fire’s miserable season continues. They have played six games so far and are yet to win a single game. They have failed to fire in unison throughout the Hundred 2022 and it remains to be seen whether they manage to register a win in their remaining last two games.

Player of the Match

Daniel Lawrence was named the player of the match for his knock of 43 before picking four wickets with the ball.

It was about absorbing pressure for the first bit of innings as Welsh Fire were bowling well. It was about soaking it, we tried to catch up in the end. It (wicket) wasn’t a belter, it was sticky. As you got in, it got gradually easier.

It’s not that I usually do – bowl 20 balls. Nice to take a few wickets. The London Spirit boys have been doing well, nice to contribute to a win.

Score Summary:

London Spirit: 156/6 (100)

(Daniel Lawrence 43, Adam Rossington 32, Ish Sodhi 2/19)
