Netherlands beat South Africa in the T20 WC: The T20 World Cup 2022 started with unbelievable results, when Namibia defeated Asia Cup champion Sri Lanka in Geelong and since then the upsets have not stopped. This World Cup is turning out the tournament of small margins.
Today at the Adelaide Oval, Netherlands have knocked out the one of the tournament favourite South Africa. This is one of the biggest upset in the history of T20 World Cup. Netherlands posted a decent 158/4 on board in the first innings and then restricted Proteas to 145/8 for their biggest win in the world cricket. It is also their win against South Africa in any format.

First Innings
South Africa won the toss and invited the Dutch to bat first. Stephan Myburgh & Max O’Dowd (29 runs) gave a solid start adding 58 runs for the first wicket. Stephan was dismissed for 37 runs by Markram. Tom Copper quickfired 35 runs in just 19 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. However Keshav Maharaj provided two breakthroughs for South Africa in two consecutive overs to bring them back into the game.
Colin’s Cameo
Colin Ackermann’s cameo, unbeated 41 off 26 deliveries gave a hope to Netherlands and helped them post a decent total of 158/4. Edwards scored 12 runs off 7 balls. Anrich Nortje turned out to be the most successful bowler for South Africa with figures 4-0-10-1.

Second Innings
South Africa got a good start, but both the openers Quinton De Cock (13 runs) & Temba Bavuma (20 runs) returned back in the powerplay. Rille Rossouw (25 runs) and Aiden Markram (17 runs) were looking good, but Brandon Grover broke the partnership.
Historic Win for Netherlands
Pacer Brandon Grover, in the form of his life dismissed dangerous David Miller and Wayne Parnell in the 16th over to leave South Africa at 113/6. Still with Heinrich Klaasen, they would have fancied their chances. But Bas De Leede sent Klaasen back for 21 and the Proteas dug out was left disheartened. They fell short of 13 runs and Netherlands registered a historic win.
South Africa Knocked Out
South Africa was sitting comfortably on the top two spots in the points table since the beginning of the tournament. But Netherlands have done the unexpected. South Africa got knocked out of the T20 World Cup and India have officially qualified to the next round of Semi-Final and going to play against England. Netherlands have given hope to Pakistan, will be supporting Pakistan to win, as they will automatically qualify for the next T20 World Cup Super 12.
