India beat Australia by 6 runs in its first warm-up match of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Gabba in Brisbane on Monday. India will play its second and last practice match against New Zealand.
Australia won the toss and invited India to bat first. India named 15-members squad for the match. KL Rahul displayed his class at the top with 57 runs off just 33 balls. Rahul made his intentions clear and reached his fifty in 27 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes. He got caught by Aston in the deep off Maxwell’s over.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fell short making 15 & 19 runs respectively , but Suryakumar Yadav came in to bat at number 4 and delivered a blistering performance, scored yet another half century. Kane Richardson got rid off him in the 19th over. Hardik Pandya returned cheaply, meanwhile Dinesh Karthik quickfired 20 runs. Kane Richardson got four wickets for thirty runs.
Chasing 187, Australian skipper Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh started the proceedings for the team. Both the batsmen scored fifty runs in just 5 overs. Marsh powered 35 off 18 balls before getting dismissed on Bhuvi’s ball. Chahal got rid off Steve Smith for 11, but Skipper Finch kept attaching from one end. He scored 76 runs in 54 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Maxwell contribution 23 runs.
It was Australia’s game till the 18th over. Australia needed 16 runs in 12 balls. Harshal bowled the 19th over brilliantly, just conceded 5 runs and dismissed dangerous Finch and Tim David. Shami was called to bowl the 20th over straight off from the bench with Australia needing 11 runs off 6 balls. Cummins started well with two doubles in first two balls, but Virat Kohli pulled off a stunner at long off. Shami runs out Aston on the fourth, bowled Jos Inglis on the fifth and Kane Richardson on the final ball to seal the match for India.
Mohammad Shami stole the show with his stunning last over. It was the terrific death bowling which Indian fans were waiting for so long.
