India and England’s Rough Start
Both India and England entered this tournament as the top favorites to lift the trophy, but their first matches showed that being so doesn’t mean things will be easy.
India, the defending champions, and England (2022 winners) were expected to win their opening games comfortably. However, both teams struggled significantly against much smaller opponents.
While England had to defend every run till the final ball in their match against Nepal, India was in danger at 77 for 6 against the USA. Thankfully, both teams pulled through, and India got a 29-run victory thanks to a rescue act by their captain. England was then able to get a 4-run win.
Pakistan’s Tense Win
Another favorite team to win when it comes to 10CRIC cricket betting is Pakistan, but fans know how unpredictable this team can be. Before the World Cup, they traveled to Australia and won the series 3–0, so it’s safe to say that they are in good form this year.
With those great wins, fans were expecting their first World Cup match this year in Colombo to be an easy win, but this wasn’t the case. Chasing a small target of 148, Pakistan’s famous batting lineup collapsed, and they went from a safe 98/2 to a scary 115/7.
Fans were shocked as stars like Babar Azam fell cheaply. However, just when it looked like the Netherlands would pull off a massive upset, Faheem Ashraf became the hero. He smashed 29 runs off just 11 balls, including three huge sixes in the 19th over.
With that, Pakistan won by 3 wickets with only 3 balls left. It was a rough start, but fans were obviously happy they managed to win that first match.
Italy’s Historical Debut
Italy’s appearance in the T20 World Cup is a huge talking point because, for many fans, it feels like a miracle. First of all, it’s the first time that Italy has ever qualified for a major Cricket World Cup.
This year, they first went against Scotland (Feb. 9, 2026), but unfortunately, they failed to get the upper hand. Scotland didn’t show any mercy to the newcomers. Their opener, George Munsey, played a masterclass innings, scoring 84 runs. Because of his hitting, Scotland became the first team in this tournament to cross the 200-run mark.
The biggest scare for Italy happened in just the 4th over. Their 42-year-old captain, Wayne Madsen, dived to stop a ball and dislocated his left shoulder. He was in visible pain and had to use his jersey as a makeshift sling to walk off the field.
He couldn’t bat for the rest of the game, which was a huge blow to Italy’s chances. Whether we’ll see more of him this year is still unclear. But even without Madse, the Manenti brothers fought hard and were able to give a 73-run partnership. Still, Italy lost their last 5 wickets for only 5 runs.
Conclusion
With the World Cup only starting, there’s still a lot to look forward to. The tournament will have a total of 55 matches. The Group stage will end on February 21, and the Super 8 Stage will start the next day.
Semi-Finals will be on March 4 and 5, while the final will be on March 8, 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
For those who don’t want to miss a single match, streaming is available on the ICC website or app. Indian fans can also watch the matches on JioStar, while those in the Middle East can watch them with VOX Cinemas.
