Muscat Cricket Stadium alias ‘Al Amerat Cricket Stadium‘: Al Amerat Cricket Stadium, also known as the Oman Cricket Academy Ground or popularly called Muscat Cricket Stadium is a cricket ground in Muscat, Oman. The ground is owned by the Oman Cricket Board.

Oman Cricket
The Oman Cricket Board, known as Oman Cricket is the Oman official governing body of the sport of cricket in Oman. Its current headquarters are located in Ruwi, Oman. The Oman Cricket Board is Oman’s representative at the International Cricket Council, gaining affiliate membership in 2000 and associate membership in 2014. It is also a member of the Asian Cricket Council.
T20 World Cup 2021 in Muscat Cricket Stadium, Oman
BCCI has confirmed that Oman will host the ICC T20 world cup along with UAE.
Pankaj Khimji, Chairman, Oman Cricket Board, said, “The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is one of the major events hosted in Oman and will be extremely instrumental in gaining recognition for the sport in our country. Striking Sponsorship with leading companies will only help us put for the best for our participants and viewers of the game. ”
The T20 World Cup hosted by the BCCI in Oman and the United Arab Emirates kick starts on 17 October, 2021
Sri Lanka, champions in 2014, and Bangladesh, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands Oman, PNG and Scotland, feature in Round 1 of the 16-team tournament, being hosted by India in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman through to 14 November. The top two teams from each group of Round 1 will make it to the Super 12s
Oman captain Zeeshan Maqsood said: “I extend a warm welcome to all teams who will be playing in our country in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to be turning out in a global ICC event on our home ground – to show the world what we are capable of as players and as a venue.”

About the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021
- The seventh edition of the tournament comprises 16 teams and is being hosted by India in the United Arab Emirates and Oman
- The tournament is being played at four venues – Dubai International Stadium, Oman Cricket Academy (Muscat), Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi)
- Hosts India and nine other top teams in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings as of 31 December 2018 received direct entries
- The top eight were placed directly in the Super 12s and the next two – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – joined six other teams coming through a Qualifier event in the group stage
- Two teams each from the group stage, consisting of four teams each, will join the eight direct entrants to complete the Super 12s line-up.
- If Sri Lanka and Bangladesh qualify from the first round, they will retain the seedings of A1 and B1 respectively for the Super 12s
- The top two teams from each group of the Super 12s will make the knockouts, the matchups being – A1 v B2 and B2 v A1

Oman national cricket team
The Oman national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Oman and is governed by the Oman Cricket Board, which became an Affiliate Member of the International Cricket Council in 2000, and gained Associate status in 2014. The national side has played matches at Twenty20 International level.

Oman announce experienced 15-member group for T20 World Cup – ICC Cricket
Oman, the co-host of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, announced their 15-member squad for the tournament on Wednesday, 8 September.
- The squad will be led by the veteran Zeeshan Maqsood
- Ayaan Khan, Nester Dhamba, Khurram Khan and Sufyan Mehmood have earned World Cup call-ups,
- Spinners as well gained making way to T20 WC i.e. Jay Odedra and Aamir Kaleem

Is cricket popular in Oman?
The sport is popular amongst Oman’s South Asian expatriate population, and has more recently been taken up by native Omanis. The governing body of cricket in the country is Oman Cricket.
In recent years, cricket’s popularity has grown significantly in Oman and it has become the second famous sport after football in the country. “The popularity of cricket has increased. It has now become the second sport behind football in schools and colleges”.
