Sam Curran stars in Oval: We’re down the business end of this year’s Hundred Men’s Competition and the Oval Invincibles completed a comprehensive win over London Spirit in the 27th match. The Lord’s in London played host to this clash.

London Spirit skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bat first. They didn’t have the best of starts as the Australian duo of Ben McDermott (0) and Josh Inglish departed (3) early in the innings. Daniel Lawrence along with Adam Rossington tries to resurrect the innings. Rossington looked good for his 36 but departed on the 44th ball.

The Spirit never recovered as the Invincibles kept them under pressure in the middle phase of the innings. Jordan Thompson’s cameo (27 off 19 balls) helped them get to a respectable total on the board. Sam Curran for the Invincibles picked up three wickets as they restricted the hosts to 122/7.

Oval Invincibles had a fantastic start to their chase, thanks to a blazing start from Will Jacks. He played some beautiful strokes and gave the Invincibles a perfect start. Rilee Rossouw coming in at three looked good for his 24.

Jacks brought up his fifty but was dismissed soon. He had laid the foundation for the chase as Tom Curran (19* off 9 balls) and Sam Billings (4* off 1 ball) guided their side across the line with 14 balls to spare. Thompson for Spirit picked up two wickets and they picked up four in total but failed to defend the total.

Oval Invincibles jump to the third spot in the points table of the Hundred 2022

The Oval Invincibles had three wins and as many losses in six games coming to the home of cricket. The bowlers set up a solid foundation for a win as they grabbed their fourth win of the competition and increased their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages.

London Spirit have slipped to the second spot after a heavy loss against the Invincibles on Saturday. They have lost two games of a total of seven and will look to finish the group stages of the Hundred on a high. A win over Birmingham Phoenix in their last fixture will see them seal a berth in the playoffs of the Hundred 2022.

Player of the Match

Sam Curran was adjudged the player of the match for his bowling figures of 3/16 in his 20 balls which included 12 dot balls.

It is pretty simple for us. We need to win the last two games including today. We have struggled to take wickets in the powerplay. The wicket wasn’t that amazing. I think Jacks should be standing here. He killed the chase today.

Tom played a lovely cameo towards the end as well. We have had so many changes because of injuries and guys leaving. We have tried to integrate everyone coming into the side.

London Spirit: 122/7 (100)
