After being asked to bat first on a good-looking surface, the Trent Rockets got off to a solid start, thanks to their openers in Alex Hales and Dawid Malan. Hales took on the bowling from the word go and raced to his fifty in no time. They both put 84 for the first wicket before Hales was dismissed on 59 of just 29 balls.
Hales’ innings laid a foundation for a strong finish as contributions from Malan (38), Colin Munro (23* of 13 balls), and skipper Lewis Gregory (24* of 12 balls) helped them post 181 at the end of their full quota of 100 balls. Mohammad Hasnain of the Invincibles picked up two wickets. Sam Curran and Sunil Narine chipped in with one wicket each.
The Invincibles had a decent start to their chase. Jason Roy looked good for his 20 but failed to carry on as Tabraiz Shamsi knocked him over. Jordan Cox, coming in at five, played a fantastic knock and kept the Invincibles in the chase despite the required run rate creeping up.
Cox remained unbeaten on 61 off just 33 balls but lacked support from the other end as they only managed to score 156 at the end of their inning, falling short by 25 runs. The Rockets picked up five wickets in total, with Shamsi finishing with figures of 2/21 in his 20 balls. Luke Wood, Sam Cook, and Samit Patel also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
