Jhulan Goswami’s retirement: It will be the end of the era for the Indian Women’s cricket team on September 24. Former Indian skipper Jhulan Goswami will be bringing down the curtains to her glorious international career during the third and final One Day International against England at the Lord’s in London.
India’s current captain Harmanpreet Kaur confirmed the news of Goswami’s retirement while hailing the seamer for her impeccable contribution to the development of Women’s cricket. In her glorious cricket career of over two decades, the former Indian skipper has won a lot of accolades while registering her name in the record books in golden letters.

She is the highest wicket-taker in the Women’s international circuit. The 39-year-old has featured in 12 Test matches, 201 One Day Internationals, and 68 T20 Internationals picking 44, 252, and 56 wickets respectively. Notably, Jhulan retired from the shortest format of the game in 2008 while her last Test appearance came in October 2021.
She hasn’t donned the Blue jersey since the ODI World Cup in New Zealand. The pacer sustained an injury during the marquee tournament and thus had to give the upcoming tours a miss. Jhulan Goswami will now be back in the team for her final cricket tour to England.

It would be extremely hard for someone to fill the shoes of the veteran cricket player. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was all praises for Jhulan as she hailed the former skipper for her passion and dedication to the sport.
“She goes to every game with the same kind of passion which is unmatched, nobody can beat that. When I entered the team, she was the one who was leading from the front. I’ve learned a lot from her. Nobody can fill in her shoes.Harmanpreet said before flying for England.

Meanwhile, the entertainment industry has also decided to pay a glowing tribute to the legend with a biopic on her life, Chakda Express. The film set to release on Netflix will follow the journey of Jhulan Goswami right from her childhood to her debut in the Indian cricket team at the age of 19 and now her retirement at 39.
“She still puts in the same kind of hard work she used to do during her early days. Nobody can bring that passion she has for cricket. As a cricketer and a person, I’ve learned a lot from her. She’s a great example for all of us. There are many back home who have grown up watching her and then took up the sport,”Harmanpreet
Bollywood actor and Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, will be playing the lead role in the movie. Prosit Roy is still shooting the film, and it is expected to release somewhere around next year 2023.
Anushka made the official announcement of the film in January with a heartwarming message, “It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. ‘Chakda Xpress’ is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket.”
