In an electrifying prelude to the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Hardik Pandya, the newly appointed captain of Mumbai Indians, expressed his delight and determination to lead the franchise he once began his cricketing journey with. Speaking at a press conference alongside head coach Mark Boucher, Pandya reflected on his unexpected ascent to captaincy and his eagerness to carry forward the legacy established by his predecessor, Rohit Sharma.

“It feels wonderful, my journey started from here and I never thought that 10 years down the line, I will be leading this side. It feels very good,” remarked Pandya, encapsulating the sentiment of embarking on a new chapter with Mumbai Indians.

Pandya’s association with Mumbai Indians dates back to his IPL debut in 2015, where he became an integral part of the squad, contributing significantly to the team’s four title triumphs. His stint with Gujarat Titans in 2022 saw him lead the franchise to a title victory, marking a significant milestone in his career. Now, with his return to Mumbai Indians and ascension to captaincy, Pandya is poised to steer the team to further glory.

Referring to his leadership role, Pandya humbly acknowledged the support and mentorship he received from Rohit Sharma, stating, “It won’t be any different because he (Rohit Sharma) will always be there to help me out if I need his help. At the same time, his (Rohit) being the Indian captain helps me because this team has achieved all its glory under his belt.”

In response to queries regarding his approach to success and failure, Pandya emphasized his steadfast demeanor, remarking, “I don’t take myself up in success, I don’t take myself down in failure. That’s my process and I think that has helped me a lot in my career.”

Pandya also reminisced about the invaluable advice imparted to him by his brother, urging him to remain true to himself amidst the pressures of the sport. With the return of Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya emphasized the bolstering of Mumbai Indians’ bowling arsenal, foreseeing Bumrah’s pivotal role in guiding the team’s aspiring talents.
