In a post-match interview following the 35th league match of the ongoing IPL cricket series in India, Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, admitted that his decision to bowl first was a mistake, which contributed to his team’s defeat against Sunrisers.

The match, held in Delhi, saw Sunrisers batting first after Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl. Sunrisers managed to put up a formidable total of 266 runs, losing 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Travis Head (89 runs), Abhishek Sharma (46 runs), and Sabash Ahmed (59 runs) were the top scorers for Sunrisers.

Chasing a target of 267 runs for victory, Delhi Capitals faltered and lost all wickets in 19.1 overs, accumulating only 199 runs. Sunrisers emerged victorious with a 67-run win.

Reflecting on the match, Rishabh Pant acknowledged his misjudgment during the toss, stating, “I decided to bowl first after predicting that there will be a deuce during the toss. But the non-arrival of Dew was the cause of our setback. That was the wrong decision I took during the toss.”

He further added, “Similarly, we would have had a good chance if we had bowled Sunrisers between 220 and 230 runs. And they scored 125 runs during the powerplay. Chasing it, we were also forced to accumulate runs. So there was a need to accumulate runs continuously.”

Despite the defeat, Pant praised Fraser McCoorg’s performance, stating, “Fraser McCoorg played very well in our team. The team definitely needs a player like him.”

Looking ahead, Pant expressed his determination to learn from the mistakes made in this match and improve in the upcoming matches, aiming to lead his team back to the winning track.

With several matches still to play in the IPL series, Delhi Capitals will be looking to bounce back stronger in their next fixture.
