In a high-octane IPL 2024 T20 cricket match held on April 28th, 2024, at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) created history by setting a new world record.

Facing off against the Hyderabad team, CSK batted first after Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bowl. Despite losing opener Rakhine early in the innings, CSK batting powerhouse led by Captain Ruturaj, along with Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dubey, set the stage on fire.

Ruturaj, who had been consistently impressive, was in sublime form, scoring a half-century in just 27 balls. Mitchell, initially slow, gained momentum and scored his first half-century of the season, partnering with Ruturaj to form a crucial 107-run partnership for the second wicket. However, just when Ruturaj seemed set for a century, he fell agonizingly short, dismissed for 98 runs off 54 balls.

Former CSK captain, MS Dhoni, and Shivam Dubey added quick runs towards the end, with Dubey remaining unbeaten on 39 runs off 20 balls, guiding CSK to a formidable total of 212/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Jaydev Unadkat took one wicket each for Hyderabad.

This remarkable performance by CSK not only secured their win against Hyderabad but also etched their name in the history books. With this match, CSK has now scored 200+ runs on 35 occasions in both IPL and Champions League T20 series combined, surpassing Somerset to become the team with the most 200+ run scores in T20 cricket.

The list of teams with most 200+ run scores in T20 cricket now stands as follows:

  1. Chennai Super Kings: 35*
  2. Somerset: 34
  3. India: 32
  4. Royal Challengers Bangalore: 31

CSK dominance in T20 cricket continues as they set yet another milestone, leaving their mark on the history of the sport.
