In a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, the Punjab Kings emerged victorious against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 42nd league match of the ongoing IPL cricket series. Led by Sam Curran, Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first, putting Kolkata Knight Riders into bat.

Despite a formidable total of 261 runs on the board, Kolkata Knight Riders could not defend their score against Punjab Kings, who chased down the target with ease, losing only two wickets in the process.

Philip Salt and Sunil Narine were the stars for Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 75 and 71 runs respectively. However, their efforts were overshadowed by a brilliant batting display from Jonny Bairstow, who scored a magnificent 108 runs, and Shashank Singh, who contributed 68 runs for Punjab Kings.

Speaking after the match, Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Shreyas Iyer, expressed his disappointment over the loss despite posting a challenging total. He praised the batting performances of Narine and Salt but admitted that he was unsure about where the team went wrong.

“260 runs are enough runs to win,” Iyer said. “Our team’s batsmen played well in this match. Especially Sunil Narine and Phil Salt batting was wonderful to watch.”

He also acknowledged the excellent performance by the Punjab Kings players, saying, “The players of both the teams have performed well in this match.”

Reflecting on the defeat, Iyer added, “It is sad that we lost the match by 260 runs. I don’t know where the mistake happened. However, we want to prepare accordingly, keeping in mind that such results will also come. We will return to the field with a better plan in the coming matches.”

Praising Sunil Narine exceptional form, Iyer said, “It is wonderful to watch Sunil Narine play. He strikes from the first ball into the field.”

Despite the defeat, Shreyas Iyer expressed confidence in his team abilities and promised to show excellent form throughout the series.

With this victory, Punjab Kings have strengthened their position in the IPL standings, while Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to bounce back stronger in their upcoming matches.
