In a high-octane clash between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Titans in the 40th league match of IPL 2024, Rishabh Pant showcased his explosive batting prowess to propel his team to a formidable total.

Winning the toss, Gujarat Titans elected to bowl first, putting Delhi Capitals into bat. The Capitals lost early wickets, with Jack Brasher-McCurg and Prithvi Shah departing early, thanks to Sandeep Warrier’s fiery spell. With the score at 44/3, the Capitals were looking for a substantial partnership to stabilize their innings.

Axar Patel, who came in next, along with skipper Rishabh Pant, took charge of the innings. The duo displayed aggressive batting, frustrating the Gujarat Titans’ bowlers. They built a sensational partnership of 113 runs for the fourth wicket, taking Delhi Capitals to a commanding position.

Axar Patel played a brilliant innings, smashing 66 runs off just 42 balls, which included 5 fours and 4 sixes, setting his highest IPL score. His partnership with Rishabh Pant laid a solid foundation for Delhi’s innings.

Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals’ skipper, was in sublime form. He reached his half-century in just 34 balls, and then accelerated further. Pant remained unbeaten till the end, scoring a blistering 88 runs off just 43 balls, at a staggering strike rate of 204.65. His innings was decorated with 5 fours and an astonishing 8 sixes.

The highlight of the innings was the last over, bowled by Mohit Sharma. Pant took full advantage of Sharma’s bowling onslaught, smashing 30 runs in the over, including two sixes, a boundary, and a couple of extras. Sharma’s over turned out to be the most expensive in the history of IPL, as he conceded a total of 73 runs in his spell of 4 overs.

Trishan Stubbs, who batted alongside Pant in the last few overs, contributed with a quickfire 26 runs off just 7 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes, helping Delhi Capitals reach an imposing total of 224/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Sandeep Warrier was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat Titans, finishing with figures of 3/36 in his 4 overs.

With this commanding total, Delhi Capitals have put themselves in a strong position in the match, setting a daunting target for the Gujarat Titans to chase down.
