There’s a cloud of uncertainty looming over Mustafizur Rahman’s availability for Chennai Super Kings’ upcoming IPL encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. The left-arm seamer has reportedly returned to Bangladesh to address visa matters for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA.

Mustafizur, who has made an instant impact since donning the yellow jersey for CSK, has been a key figure in the team’s bowling arsenal. His unique blend of whippy cutters and deceptive pace has earned him seven wickets in just three games, boasting an impressive average of 15.14 and an economy rate of 8.83. Notably, four of those wickets came in a whirlwind spell of ten balls during his CSK debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

However, his potential absence poses a significant challenge for the CSK management, who are now pondering over various replacement options. One such option could be the inclusion of Sri Lanka’s mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana or England’s offspin-bowling allrounder Moeen Ali. Nevertheless, Mustafizur’s absence would disrupt the formidable partnership he shares with Matheesha Pathirana, who has also been effective in the death overs.

Eric Simons, the CSK bowling consultant, emphasized the importance of having a balanced squad with versatile options. He highlighted Mustafizur’s unique skill set and the impact of Pathirana, underscoring their value in unsettling opposition batting line-ups.

In the event that CSK opts for a local replacement, the fit-again Mukesh Choudhary emerges as a potential candidate. Choudhary, who has been plagued by injuries since IPL 2022, expressed his readiness to return to action, citing improvements in his fitness and bowling prowess.

As CSK gears up for their clash with Sunrisers, they find themselves placed third on the points table, having secured two wins in three games. Despite their strong start, the absence of Mustafizur could pose a significant challenge as they aim to maintain their momentum in the tournament.

The uncertainty surrounding Mustafizur’s availability adds intrigue to CSK’s upcoming fixture, with fans eagerly awaiting the final decision on his inclusion in the playing XI. As the IPL season progresses, CSK will be hoping to navigate through such challenges and continue their quest for glory in the tournament.
