After Shivam Dube’s explosive half-century against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 39th IPL 2024 match on Tuesday, April 23, in Chennai, a former all-rounder has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider selecting the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Dube’s scintillating knock of 66 runs from just 27 balls, including three fours and seven sixes, has caught the attention of cricket pundits and fans alike.

In the IPL 2024 match against LSG at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Shivam Dube’s hard-hitting half-century powered CSK to a formidable total of 210/4. Not only did Dube’s innings contribute significantly to CSK’s total, but it also marked a personal milestone as he surpassed 1,000 runs for his team in the IPL. This remarkable performance prompted former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina to endorse Dube’s name for the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Dube came to bat against LSG after Mohsin Khan dismissed Ravindra Jadeja. He played a whirlwind innings, showcasing explosive intent and making boundaries at will. Partnering with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who played an unbeaten innings of 108 runs, Dube’s aggressive batting propelled CSK to a commanding position.

Commenting on Dube’s performance, former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull emphasized Dube’s superiority over Hardik Pandya with the bat and suggested that Dube’s bowling skills in the nets could be an added advantage. “At the moment, Hardik’s bowling and batting is not working for him. So, Dube has got the wood over him (Hardik),” Doull said.

“Dube’s performance in the IPL 2024 season has been exceptional, and he has consistently shown his ability to turn the game around with his explosive batting,” said Doull. “From an Indian selection point of view, you can’t ask any of these teams to do something that doesn’t help them win the tournament,” he added.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon, Dube’s remarkable form in the IPL has put him in contention for a spot in the Indian squad. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball could prove to be invaluable for the team, especially in high-pressure situations. As the cricketing world awaits the BCCI’s announcement of the T20 World Cup squad, all eyes will be on whether Dube’s name features in the final list.
