ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Binura Fernando To Replace Dilshan Madushanka in Sri Lanka Squad

Binura Fernando To Replace Dilshan Madushanka in the eight edition of the prestigious T20 World Cup (Australia). Sri Lanka faced Namibia in the tournament opener of Group Stage. It was not a good start for Sri Lanka and star fast bowler Dilshan Madushankaa bas been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. He suffered this injury during training before the tournament. Binura Fernando has now been included in the Sri Lankan team in place of Madhushanka.

The ICC said in a statement, “Event Technical Committee of the T20 World Cup had approved Binura Fernando as a replacement for the left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka in the Sri Lanka squad. Fernando who has played nine T20Is, was named as a replacement after Madhushanka was ruled out due to a torn quad muscle. Fernando will travel out from Sri Lanka and join rest of the squad in Australia.”

Earlier Madhushanka did not attend the team’s practice session on Saturday (October15) and was sent for an MRI scan, which revealed an injury. His exit from the tournament is a major setback for Sri Lanka as the fast bowler performed brilliantly in the Asia Cup and contributed significantly to the team’s title win.
